Residents at a dementia-specialist nursing home in Cheltenham enjoyed a visit from a very special guest to help them celebrate the Chinese New Year.
Five-month-old Pudding, who currently lives at Cheltenham Animal Shelter, met residents at Wentworth Court on Village Road to help celebrate the Year of the Rabbit.
Pudding, who was found as a stray by a member of the public before being signed over to the Animal Shelter enjoyed plenty of fuss and cuddles during her visit.
Acting wellbeing team leader, Silus Meadows said: “Over the last few weeks, we have been working very hard at Wentworth Court in preparation for Chinese New Year, the Year of the Rabbit.
“Thanks to our friends at Cheltenham Animal Shelter, the residents had the chance to pet a beautiful baby bunny. It’s really important for residents to enjoy time with pets and engage with animals that many of them have grown up with, connecting them with positive past memories.”
Assistant education officer from Cheltenham Animal Shelter, Kerys Carter added: “We love doing care home visits as residents benefit so much from handling animals.
“There are therapeutic benefits for the animals too, as we get to find out the types of future home that might suit them, whether they are comfortable with elderly people or when we visit schools or young people come to our Paws for Reading activities, we get to know if they are happy around children.
“There’s good news for Pudding though, who is off to her new home later this week with a young couple.”
As well as meeting Pudding, residents also created and tasted Tang Yuan, a traditional Chinese dessert made of rice flour with a sweet filling and took part in Chinese-themed quizzes and games.
In the weeks leading up to the celebration day, residents crafted colourful fans, patterned masks and lantern and rabbit decorations.
