With thousands of festival-goers descending upon Pilton for this year’s Glastonbury Festival, residents at a Cheltenham nursing home were able to enjoy the spirit of Glastonbury closer to home.

Dressed in flamboyant festival outfits from tie-dyed T-shirts created by residents to flowing summer dresses and floral headbands, families, residents and team members looked the part at Wentworth Court’s very own music festival, WentFest.

The 65 residents, who live with moderate to severe dementia enjoyed a BBQ and drinks in the home’s beautiful garden, which was festooned with block-printed bunting and floral displays.

Local performers, Andy Yapp, Gill Guarino and her daughter Sophia and Brian Black took to the main stage to provide an afternoon of music from the 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s, ensuring everyone got to dance and sing along.

Wellbeing Team Leader, Silus Meadows said, “WentFest is one of the highlights in the Wentworth Court calendar with our residents and wellbeing team working on festival-themed crafts and decorations for the last few weeks.

“Our residents were able to experience the festival vibe without leaving home and have a joyful afternoon, bringing families together with for an alfresco lunch, singalong and a dance.

“Music can bring back memories and feelings and for residents who are non-verbal and it can enable communication through dance and movement. We’ve had a brilliant day, with everyone able to access the event and have a fun and meaningful afternoon.”
